As you may already know, Sega has been working on a new 2D sonic game originally named “Project Needlemouse”. Today Sega announced the official name for the game, which is going to be called Sonic The Hedgehog 4. The game is set for a release date of summer 2010, it will release in a episodic format, and will be available for the XBLA, PSN and Wiiware downloadable game services.

Here is a little bit of the backstory behind Sonic 4:

The game follows the adventure of Sonic after the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. Following the destruction of the Death Egg on Angel Island, Sonic takes a break and explores new territories by himself. However unknowingly his nemesis Doctor Robotnik had also survived their last encounter and is preparing a new trap to get rid of Sonic.

Here is some info that Sega released about the game:

As stated before, the gameplay will be more reminiscent of Sonic’s 2D adventures for the Genesis. You will run as fast you can through loop-de-loops, collect powerups, spin dash to unlock obstacles, and to also attack enemies. This game will also integrate the use of the homing attack featured in the more recent installments of the franchise. The 360 and PS3 versions will feature 1080p visuals, whereas the Wii version will feature 480p visuals. Online leaderboards, motion control support for the PS3(Sixaxis), and for the Wii will also be included.

Sega also unveiled a new teaser trailer for Sonic 4, check it out below this post.

That is all I have for you right now, be on the lookout for more info and trailers for this before its summer 2010 right here on rejectedgamer.com.
