Nintendo Download of the Week : 3/29 Edition

Sorry about the delay, but with PAX East just ending, I had to take a day off to relax after the long trip out to Boston. No worries though, your Download of the Week is here. Now it may look like I pick the most popular downloadable title every time, but honestly that is not the truth at all. I base my decisions on what game, or games, interest me the most for that particular week. With that being said, let’s check out the download that caught my interest for this last week in March. PAX East Day 3

Day 3 at PAX had come and gone, and that means all of us are now on our way home. Again, we had another great day. Matt had the opportunity to sit down with Hudson and the team behind Frobot. For Jeff, he had an opportunity to check out Civilation Revolution V and Mafia II. Mike focused on floor time and playing as many games as he could. Mike also briefly met with a few that helped develop Skate 3; there will be no audio, but there will be a write up about it. Take a listen to our podcast of day 3. Today’s show has the crew talking about what they’ve played, their best of show, and worst of show, followed by the interviews Matt and Jeff recorded throughout the day. Make sure you follow us on Twitter to see what we’re doing: , , and .

Nintendo Download of the Week: 3/22 Edition

My pic for this week goes to Cave Story for the Wiiware, made by Nicalis, Inc. The game is rated E10+ for ages 10 and up, and is available for 1,200 points through the Wii Shop Channel. The reason (or reasons) why I choose this game as my download of the week is because first of all it looks like a very exciting action adventure game. Secondly, the simple, yet effective 8-bit design has always been intriguing to me when it comes to Wiiware games. For some reason, I like the idea of a modern game with not only a classic look attached to it, but also one that captures the essence of what old school games are all about, which is make them as challenging as possible but also make them alot of fun to play. The Angry Video Game Nerd

He’s Gonna Take You Back To The Past

Which is what he does best.

I would like to take the time to write about a person who has been one of the main reasons that I have stayed a gamer all these years, his name is the Angry Video Nerd. Portrayed by James D. Rolfe, the Nerd shares his amusing thoughts about all of the terrible, and some good, games from his past, and explains why they are either way too hard to complete, or why they suck so bad that no one should ever even try to play them. He has shown the world that it is ok to not only be mad at the games that have frustrated us over the years, but to also understand that bad games have existed well before this generation, and there is no excuse for us to just let these developers get away with making this crap. Retro Games we still can’t beat

As good as we think we are at games nowadays, there are those titles from our past that we still cannot beat, and the mere fact that they are older titles makes some of us feel guilty for not completing them. There are still a few titles from my retro collection that I still cannot beat to this very day, and honestly, I am ashamed of myself for not doing so. As any honest gamer would do, they would admit their failures and move on, which is what i’m going to do with you right now. (more…)

Nintendo Download of the Week: 3/15 edition

Instead of doing a few posts about what’s new in the world of Nintendo, I thought that it would be a better idea for me to just share my thoughts on any particular game that i am interested in each week. Don’t worry, I will do my best to keep all of you briefly updated on what other downloads will be available as well. Let’s get on with it, shall we. (more…)

What type of gamer are you?

There is a question that I get asked, and i’m sure most of you get asked this question every once in awhile, and that is “What type of gamer are you”. Most of the time I would give my I like specific genres of games as an answer, which usually comes across as more of a broad generalization than an actual answer. The truth is, I honestly do not know what type of gamer I am. What makes it really hard to define what a gamer is is trying to actually understand the difference between what games you like to play, and the generation of gaming in which you grew up. (more…)
