Sony’s Kaz Hirai said the PS3 has a 10 year life cycle, and that the Xbox 360 will only last for 4-5 years. I personally don’t believe we as gamers are ready for the “Next Generation”. Some of us still call this generation next-gen. The power and ease of the 360 will allow developers plenty of power to keep pushing the standards. You couple that with the fact that the 360 has a higher penetration rate and a higher attach rate. Developers are in this business to make money, and it has been proven with every NPD release that the 360 pays them more. That’s before you take into account the Live Marketplace. I would love to see the PS3 and the 360 still competing at the 10 year mark, but I don’t think I’ll be playing them at that point.
I firmly believe we have a good 7 year life span from both consoles, the technology is there, and so is the fan base. By the time we hit 7 years, the PC market will have given us something that we can’t live without, then we will be ready for our upgrade, but until then we will survive on the great games that are still being delivered each and every month.

Nice piece! I have a feeling that 7 years for the PS3 is still to early. I highly feel that the PS3 can easily last 10+ years because of its capabilities. Developers are only taping at most 10% of the power the PS3 harnesses.
