The latest Fallout 3 downloadable content, Point Lookout, is by far the most unique for the game. No more Capital Wasteland where newer technology is frequently available; now you’re thrown to the wolves, or should I say inbred creatures, where time didn’t reach those parts of the woods. Be prepared to see oddities and scenery that will make you feel like you are playing in the movie Deliverance.

Point Lookout is the fourth piece of DLC for Fallout 3 and it’s completely different from those we have already seen. PL gives you that eerie feeling while walking around with its swamp filled environment, foggy hillsides, and landscape that just makes you want to watch your back. This isn’t the typical Fallout 3 content we’re use to seeing, but it adds a good mix to the game.
The expansion starts off with a notice that a ferry boat will be able to take adventurous Wastelanders to a new location full of treasure and riches. Once you get to Point Lookout, the story quickly takes you on a guns blazing – trippy ride that also gives you that good old Fallout humor; Schmault-Tec. The story itself is fairly short, coming in around four hours of gameplay for me, but that doesn’t include exploring too much of the island and any side quests.
The island is made to explore its vast area. You’ll start off in a boardwalk type area and then you’ll venture out from a rocky shore with a lighthouse to swamp filled forests, thick with radiation. With Point Lookout being a Civil War landmark, you’ll come across some unique weapons like a double-barrel shotgun, lever-action rifle, and my favorite reenactment of a movie, the axe.
All in all, I had a blast with Point Lookout! Granted there was one thing that bothered me while playing and that was when I walked. When you look at the ground and walked, it didn’t flow smoothly. It felt jerky while walking, but like most Fallout DLC, it still has bugs that need to be worked out. Other than that, the landscape of the entire island looked great, and you can spend countless hours exploring. If you’re looking for a new Fallout 3 experience, this is it, and it’s worth the price!
Score: Get It!
