XBLA Review: Sorry! Sliders

I’ll have to admit, I never played Sorry! Sliders until I played the demo on the Xbox Marketplace. My first impression and feeling about the game was very enjoyable; something I could spend almost hours playing. And it was at that moment, in a middle of a game, when a message popped up saying something like, “Sorry, but your demo is now over,” that I jumped up, yelled at the TV and said, “I HAVE to get this game!”

Developer – EA Bright Light
Publisher – Electronic Arts
Genre – Family Games
Rating – E (Everyone)
Multiplayer – 1-4 Local / 2-4 Online
Price – 800 MSP ($10)

Sorry! Sliders is basically an action packed version of the classic Sorry! game. Like most board games, the rules are simple; you slide your pawns down an alley like lane to get as close to the center target as you can. The challenging part is that the other players can knock your pawns around to change your point total for that pawn, or they can even knock your pawns off the playing board, which is where Sorry! comes in. Your main goal is to move your pawns up to your home with the exact amount of points that you gain by sliding your pawns down the alley.

The controls for Sorry! Sliders is pretty simple; the left analog stick controls where and how fast you slide your pawn down the lane. Pulling the stick back and pushing it forward gives your pawn a boost of speed, where as just pushing up can get you to your destination, but at a slower pace and not much force behind it. Just like the controls, the graphics are the same Family Game Night style graphics.

Surprisingly enough, I couldn’t find much to complain about this game. Besides the graphics being a standard Family Game Night style, which is mediocre at best, the game was pretty good and it gave you different options on how you can play it. Sorry! Sliders gives you three ways to play the game; normal, advanced, and Battle Boxes. The advanced mode spins the target area around and Battle Boxes gives you power ups to pick up as you slide into the center area. Some include invisibility, making your pawn heavy, and create ice around your pawn to help other pawns to keep on sliding to name some

All in all, I had a blast playing this game; One of my favorites in the Hasbro Family Game Night series! With the multiple modes to play the game, the thrill of trying to land and keep your pawn on the bulls-eye, and being able to use all the aspects of the game mode just to try to win makes this game well worth the $10 price tag. If you had just a small amount of fun with Sorry!, you’ll have a blast with Sorry! Sliders. (B+)
