Mickey gets something special

One of my most anticipated games this year, Epic Mickey for the Wii, is going to be a unique experience that more than likely will be worth checking out. Seems like the people over at Junction Point and Disney want to give longtime fans of the popular mascot a little something extra, if they are willing to pay for it of course. Yesterday, an announcement was made that a special collectors edition of the game will be available for $69.99 at time of release, which should be sometime during the holiday season. (more…)

New Features, More Money

Announced today, Microsoft plans on charging more for their Xbox Live Gold subscription. On November 1, 2010, games can expect to pay $59.99 a year, $9.99/month, or $24.99 every three months. The reason for this increase is because of all the added features that we have seen and are about to see in the upcoming months. With ESPN, Video Kinect, and Hulu Plus, Microsoft has now found a way to charge more for their service. I understand that Microsoft is forced into the increase because of these new deals, but personally, I think it’s crap! (more…)

Nintendo Download of the Week: 8/30 Edition

With all of the big name titles coming out for the Wii this year, you would think that Nintendo would put forth more time and effort into its downloadable lineup. The truth about it though is that week after week they continue to disappoint in bringing any quality titles to the service. No matter how upset I may be about this, I’m sure that there is at least something worth playing out of the sea of crap this time around. So, without further adieu, here is my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for August 30th,2010. (more…)

Final Fantasy VII NES Style

In case you didn’t know, Final Fantasy VII was one of my favorite games of all time. It was a timeless classic on the PS1, and many people have been begging the folks over at Sony to do a remake of it for the PS3 for quite some time now. Don’t get me wrong, an HD upgrade would be nice to see, but I don’t think it would give off the same feeling as the first one did so many years ago. That being said, seeing somebody pay homage to the game in an old school NES style was, in the most simple terms, pretty damn awesome. Anyone who is a fan of this RPG like I am should give this video a looksee, Enjoy!

P.S.- I know that this is not really a newsworthy story, just wanted to share something with all of you that I thought was interesting, and more importantly brings back some memories from my childhood.

Nintendo Download of the Week: 8/23 Edition

I guess Nintendo really likes to mess with people, because they have a great way of releasing a bunch of great games one week, and a whole lot of crap the other. It’s a vicious cycle that seems to have no end in sight. Ironically, when things are going well, it’s almost as hard to pick something as it is when the selection is very limited. Still, one title has to be better from the rest, because not every game can win. So here it is, my pic for Nintendo Download of the Week for August 23rd, 2010. (more…)

Jeff on P&D Podcast

Just wanted to let all of our readers know that one of our senior editors, Jeff (Qualitybeats84) had the chance to sit down the folks from the Pink and Deadly Podcast recently. They discussed a number of things, including the Summer of Arcade game Limbo, the inclusion of multiplayer modes, and why they aren’t really necessary for some games, and much more. Check out the show below, enjoy!

Review: Fly Fu

Apparently when flies are not being swatted at or stepped on, they are using kung fu moves to destroy an evil army of insects in order to save the ones they love. Fly Fu is a simple, yet fun beat em up that does nothing new to revolutionize the genre in any way shape or form whatsoever. Sure, it is probably one of those games that most people will look at and go “what the hell is that”, or “how can a fly possibly know karate”, but sometimes a strange idea could possibly end up being a good one. Can killing other insects while playing as one be as fun as it sounds?, read on to find out. (more…)

Nintendo Download of the Week: 8/16 Edition

I really want to try my best to pick out something out of the crap when it comes to this week’s Nintendo downloads, but honestly, this may just be the one time in which I pick absolutely nothing. Sure, it is somewhat understandable that the company wants to put the main focus on their newer games than the ones from the past, but when you don’t offer anything interesting on either service, the idea is pretty much shot. Just to be fair, let’s see if there is something worth playing this time around. So here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for August 16th, 2010. (more…)

First Impressions: Monday Night Combat

When I think of a shooter based on a game show, the first thing that pops into my head is the arcade classic Smash TV. Now take that concept, mix it with Team Fortress 2′s character classes, and you’ve got Monday Night Combat. Just got the chance to check out the trial version, and wanted to share my initial thoughts on it with all of you. (more…)
