Wow, this might actually be the first week that I end up choosing a VC game above the rest. There is just nothing new on either the Wiiware or DSiWare that would even remotely peak my interest. Seems like every time the Virtual Console decides to update itself, the rest of the downloadable services suffer. Oh well, either way, here is my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for September 6th, 2010.

My pick for this week is going to have to go to Samurai Shodown III for the Virtual Console. It has an ESRB rating of T for Teen, and is currently available for download through the Wii Shop Channel at the asking price of 900 Wii points. Despite not being the biggest fan of fighting games, the reason why I choose this one was because it looks like the only game that I could even remotely have any fun playing. Anybody who is actually a fan of the series will want to go ahead and download it as soon as possible. If not, then help save the west from impending doom in Fenimore Filmore: The Westerner for Wiiware.

For our handheld gamers out there, the DSiWare service has three new titles for you to check out. Match up the tiles to win by playing a round of Simply Mahjong. Interested in raising Zoo animals, but want to avoid having to make space for these large creatures?, give My Exotic Farm a try. Learn how to become a respectful musician without all of the hassles of dealing with groupies in Music On: Acoustic Guitar.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

P.S.- Happy Labor Day Everybody!

With all of the big name titles coming out for the Wii this year, you would think that Nintendo would put forth more time and effort into its downloadable lineup. The truth about it though is that week after week they continue to disappoint in bringing any quality titles to the service. No matter how upset I may be about this, I’m sure that there is at least something worth playing out of the sea of crap this time around. So, without further adieu, here is my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for August 30th,2010.

My pic for this week is going to have to go to Cosmos X2 for the DSiWare service. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download through the DSi Shop Channel for the asking price of 500 DSi Points. The reason that I picked this game as my favorite was because it is an old-school 2D side scrolling shoot em up, which is something the older generation of gamers can appreciate, at least for the nostalgic factor anyway. If you are one of these people, then go ahead and download this one as soon as humanly possible.

Maybe firing laser beams at multiple enemies isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. In this case, checking out some of the other titles available for download might be a good idea. Interested in composing a great symphony?, give Music On: Learning Piano a try. Dear Diary, the next version of the mynotebook series, myNotebook: Pearl has just arrived, should I get it?, the answer is yes.

Looking for something to play on the Wii? Well, this may sound upsetting, but there is only one Wiiware game to check out. Elasticity is a good idea when it comes to stretchy pants, but who knows, Tales of Elastic Boy: Mission 1 may prove that there is more than one use for something like this.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

P.S.- Dear Nintendo of America, quit stiffing us on Virtual Console games, there is no reason for it at all.

I guess Nintendo really likes to mess with people, because they have a great way of releasing a bunch of great games one week, and a whole lot of crap the other. It’s a vicious cycle that seems to have no end in sight. Ironically, when things are going well, it’s almost as hard to pick something as it is when the selection is very limited. Still, one title has to be better from the rest, because not every game can win. So here it is, my pic for Nintendo Download of the Week for August 23rd, 2010.

My pic for this week is going to have to go to And Yet it Moves for the Wiiware service. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download through the Wii Shop Channel for the asking price of 1,000 Wii Points. The reason that I picked this as the best of the bunch was because the idea of rotating in circles to solve puzzles sounds nasueating and extremely fun at the same time. Anybody who has a tolerance for what I just said should give this one a chance. If this is not your cup of tea, then try your hands on Sunsoft’s version of Metroid, Uforia: The Saga for the Virtual console.

For our handheld friends out there, the DSiWare service has some very interesting titles for you to check out this time around. Anyone with at least some musical talent, and the ability to make compositions should try out Rytmik. Hide in the shadows, and test out those Ninja skills in G.G Series NINJA KARAKURI DEN. Want to know what working on a farm is like, My Farm is as close to an experience as one can get without having to deal with manure. Othello is a fun game, despite how much I suck at it, and Absolute Reversi could be a great way to waste time on the go.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

I really want to try my best to pick out something out of the crap when it comes to this week’s Nintendo downloads, but honestly, this may just be the one time in which I pick absolutely nothing. Sure, it is somewhat understandable that the company wants to put the main focus on their newer games than the ones from the past, but when you don’t offer anything interesting on either service, the idea is pretty much shot. Just to be fair, let’s see if there is something worth playing this time around. So here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for August 16th, 2010.

My pic for this week is going to have to go to Divergent Shift for the DSiWare Service. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download through the DSi Shop Channel for the asking price of 800 DSi points. The reason that I picked this as my download of the week was because it is a platformer mixed with a puzzler. Two of my favorite genres have decided to join forces, and that could turn out to be a wonderful thing, if everything is done right. If a platpuzzler sounds like a good idea idea to some of you, then go ahead and check out this one right now.

Maybe using brain power is the last thing any of us want to do on a Monday, and if that’s the case, then check out some of the other DSiWare games on tap for this week. Have a craving for matching tiles with the same symbols together in 3D, then give 3D Mahjong a try. Got something on your mind, but have no one to share it with, don’t worry,myNotebook: Carbon is here to fix that problem. For some obscure reason Just Sing! National Anthems gets me in the mood to watch some baseball, don’t ask me why.

For our console friends out there, the Wiiware service has a port of an Iphone game, along with a completely new title for them to check out. The battle between Monsters and Robots has just begun, settle it once and for all inMonsteca Corral: Monsters vs. Robots. Embark on an adventure, and boldly go where many people have already gone before in Space Trek.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

Not sure what to make of the downloads on offer this time around, they range from strange to downright boring. A new entry into a popular series, that could have just been a background image on a computer, has returned, along with a massage game that was made for guys who never get any in real life. Looks like I’m going to have to swim through a sea full of shovelware crap before I find something that is even remotely worth playing. Anyways, here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for August 13th, 2010.

My pic for this week is going to have to go to Turn: The Lost Artifact for the DSiWare service. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download through the DSi Shop Channel for the asking price of 800 Wii points. The reason that I picked this as my download of the week was because the idea of rotating rooms in order to solve puzzles seems like an interesting idea. If anyone else out there agrees with me, they should go ahead and download this one right now.

If the only thing involving turning that you like to do is using a turn signal on your car, it might be a good idea to check out some of the other titles currently available for DSiWare. The musically gifted among us may want to give Rhythm Core Alpha a try. Those looking for a something bit more on the strategic side, Absolute Chess could be the game for you. Got kids who still need to learn the basics, make it a fun, instead of torturing experience by playing Did It Myself ABC123 .

Not sure if I would call these games or not, but the Wiiware service has two new, let’s call them screensavers for you to check out. Can’t afford to buy real fish or a fish tank, don’t worry, My Aquarium 2 is the next best thing. Let’s just say perverted minds will be pleased when playing Enjoy Your Massage and leave it at that.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

It just seems like Nintendo has been lazy with their downloadable services as of late. Instead of delivering any type of quality title week after week, these developers and publishers tend to go with the easy way out just about every time. After taking an honest look at what’s on offer here, there is at least one game that might be worth playing. So let’s get right to it, here is my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for August 2nd, 2010.

My pic for this week is going to have to go to BlayzBloo: Super Melee Action Battle Royale for the DSiWare service. It has an ESRB rating of E10+, and is available for download through the DSi Shop Channel for the asking price of 500 Wii points. The reason that I picked this as my download of the week was because this particular series is a favorite of one our other editor’s on the site (Jeff), so I figured it was at least worth checking out. Anyone else who is interested in some intense 2D fighting action should go ahead and download this one right now.

If hadoukens and spin kicks don’t sound all that intriguing to you, then check out some of the other games that are currently available for DSiWare. It’s time to put those kindergarten skills to the test in Match Up. If anyone has ever had trouble losing their keys, and I know I have, they could make sure that doesn’t happen ever again after playing a few rounds of Hints Hunter . Want a dog, but not sure how to take care of it?, learn the tools of the trade in Petz Dogz Family .

For our waggling friends out there, the Wiiware service has two games to check out. Gamblers rejoice, there’s a way to play slot machines without ever losing any money, check out Fantasy Slots: Adventure Slots and Games instead. Want to catch some deer without all of the hassle of waking up at 5 o’ clock in the morning?, try out Deer Captor .

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

The lineup this time around actually doesn’t look all that bad. Wiiware gets a couple of interesting new titles that look like they are worth checking out. DSiWare, as usual, gets an abundance of new releases with the possibility of only one or two of them being any good. Last, but certainly not least, the Virtual Console rises from the grave and gives us old school fans something to play as well. Recommending only one game might be a hard thing to do, but I’ll give it a shot. Here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for July 26th, 2010.

My pic for this week goes to a type of game that is rarely seen on Wiiware, the arcade style on-rails shooting game Heavy Fire: Special Operations. It has an ESRB rating of T for Teen, and is available for download through the Wii Shop Channel for the asking price of 500 Wii points. The reason that I picked this as my download of the week was because I love a good old fashioned light gun game every once in awhile. Those of you who are looking for something simple and fun to play with your friends might want to give this one a shot(no pun intended), download it now.

If shooting up terrorists doesn’t sound all that fun, then check out some of the other games available on the Wii Shop Channel. Anyone who enjoys scuba diving and exploring the mystical creatures of the ocean might want to check out the Wiiware game Dive: The Medes Islands Secret. Not sure how bats and circus performing go hand in hand, but those of you who have that nocturnal feeling would probably be interested in playing Aero: the Acrobat for the Virtual Console.

For our friends that are into the handheld scene, the DSiWare has five new games for you to try out. I’m scared of heights, but for those people that are not so intimated by them, playing Face Pilot: Fly With Your Nintendo DSi Camera! could end up being more fun than frightening. Exploring mystical dungeous with dangerous monsters is the name of the game in Crystal Monsters. Those Puffins are at it again, and this time, they are taking their problems to the race track in Puffins: Let’s Race! . Ever wondered what a hamster family has to deal with on a day to day basis, me neither, but Petz Hamsterz Family could be a nice little diversion for anyone who has ever wanted one of them as a pet. It’s time to brush up on those brick breaking skills, because they will be put to the test in Absolute BrickBuster.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

Seems like everyone is living in the past as of late, because I keep on hearing them complain about how there are no Virtual Console titles being released onto the Wii Shop Channel. My answer to this is that maybe sometimes we need to give the newer games a chance. However, with that being said, this can be a hard thing to do, especially when week after week Nintendo releases nothing but shovelware crap for each of their downloadable services. As bad as most of them might be, there is a rare gem in there somewhere. So here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for July 19th, 2010.

The winner for the game that might have a chance to be something good for this week goes to Furry Legends for the Wiiware service. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download for 1,000 Wii points through the Wii Shop Channel. The reason that I picked this game as my download of the week was because I am a sucker for physics based, puzzle solving platformers (like Limbo). Keep something in mind when playing a game like this, you will have to use your brain (scary stuff). If that sounds good to you also, then go ahead and check this game out right now.

There might be some people out there who don’t like furry creatures, which means that they may want to check out one of the other two games that the Wiiware has to offer. Anyone up for an old fashioned game of hoops should give Hoopworld a try. Ever wanted to turn your TV into an aquarium (me neither) might want to check out AquaSpace .

For our handheld friends out there, the DSiWare service has five games on tap for this week. You could take care of a creature that I’m allergic to in Petz Kittens . There are times in which I don’t know how to spell a certain word, hopefully Scrabble Tools can help me out. Being a patient in one of of these places might suck, but running one could be even worse, hopefully Hospital Havoc proves that it can be fun at least. Turn one of the best times of the year into a buisness in Happy Birthday Mart . There are so many iterations of this game that it drives me crazy, but anyone who enjoys number crunching (literally) might want to check out Crazy Sudoku .

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

As the title of the game implies, Quickpick Farmer is one of those games that doesn’t last too long, but is still fun nevertheless. It’s a simple and accessible title that is perfect for people who are looking for something to do if they’ve got a few minutes to kill. The idea of putting sheep into containers, and using their wool to shoot into barns for points may sound like animal cruelty to some, but the light-hearted tone of the whole experience more than makes up for it. That being said, even the most experienced gamers reflexes will be tested here, so don’t let your guard down for one second. Get those sewing needles ready, because you’re going to need them.
Developer:Dancing Dots
Genre:Strategy
Platform:DSiWare
If you like: Reflex and memorization games, arcade games, etc.

Here’s how it works, three barns are displayed on the top screen, and many different kinds of sheep, and storage trucks are displayed on the bottom screen. The idea is to store the required amount of the sheep into the truck, then they will turn into a ball of yarn(no kidding), a barn door will open with a point value, and you launch them into the barn to earn points. A wolf will also also be moving from side to side, and if you let him wander to close to the trucks, the game will be over. This may sound like a strange setup, but trust me, it works.

Controlling every action with the stylus feels fluid, the musical and audio presentation is what one should expect from a two dollar game, nothing special, but still effective in getting it’s point across. The games sense of humor is it’s real selling point though. When the wolf gets hit by the yarn, or when the sheep are being touched by the stylus, the reactions they give are priceless. Level design is basic, making it easy for any gamer to understand what is going on on both screens at all times.

There are two modes of play, 30 Days, and Non-stop. 30 Days is kind of like a survival mode, in which the player will have to survive wave after wave of oncoming sheep. Non-stop is exactly that, an arcade mode that only ends when the gamer wants it to end. The only real difference is that 30 days offers bonus points for completing specific objectives, such as hitting the wolf, finish a level in record time, and so on, and Non-stop offers points just for getting the sheep into the barns. A local ranking system has been included, but honestly, once you have played through the game once or twice, there really is no reason to go back.

Just a little tip, memorization is the key to success in this one. Some sheep may have only a little bit of hair, or a shaved head, maybe some spots, or different colored skin. Always keep an eye on which area they need to go into on the bottom screen, because if they are put into the wrong truck, you will lose points. I can’t tell you how many times I forgot where to put some of the sheep just because I wasn’t looking at the bottom of the screen. Be sure to also hit the wolf every once in awhile just to keep him in check, and to also earn some bonus points in the process.

Quickpick Farmer is a short, but sweet, time killer that anyone can play. The exciting and fun gameplay, the quirky yet humourous game design, and the amount of strategy involved in each task will satisfy even the most resistant gamer’s ability to have a good time. It may be on the short side, but what do you expect, it’s only 2 dollars. A worthy purchase for anyone who is interested in trying something that is far from the norm. (B)

Wow, this may just be the hardest decision that I have ever had to make when it comes to picking a favorite download, as there is really nothing here that sparks my interest. Virtual Console problems aside, I have never heard of any of these games. Who knows, there may be a rare gem in here somewhere, so let’s give it a chance. Here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for July 12th, 2010.

The only game that could possibly any good from whats on offer for this week would have to be Toribash for the Wiiware service. It has an ESRB rating of T for Teen, and is available for download through the Wii Shop Channel for the asking price of 1,000 Wii points. The reason that I picked this one was because it honestly looks like one of those rare gems that might actually appeal to a core audience on this service. Even though I’m not much of a fighting game fan myself, something about manipulating every joint in the body to do fighting moves just sounds interesting to me. If you are interested in something like that, then check this game out right now. If you’re not up to this task, then go ahead and Pop some balloons in Balloon Pop Festival.

Our little handheld friend the DSiWare has five games on tap for this week. Puzzle gamers who want to take it easy should give Primrose a try. The infamous Pop Island has returned, try to survive it’s latest challenge in Pop Island: Paperfield. Anyone who remembers any iconic video game sound from the 80′s might want to check out Music on: Retro Keyboard . Obsessed with playing card games all day, if the answer is yes, then 24/7 Solitaire is the answer to your prayers. Planning a vacation to France, be sure to learn the language first and play 4 Travellers: Play French.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

Welcome back everybody, hope you enjoyed your Fourth of July weekend, now it’s time to get down to some business. Somehow Nintendo thinks that by releasing 8 titles on both of their services, it will make up for their every other week release of Virtual console titles, and it doesn’t. There are just some games that are on offer here that made me go really, this is all we get. Either way, let’s get on with it, here is my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for July 5th, 2010.

My pic for this week is going to go to Pearl Harbor Trilogy – 1941: Red Sun Rising for the Wiiware service. It has an ESRB rating of T for Teen, and is available for download for 700 Wii points through the Wii Shop Channel. The reason that I picked this as my download of the week was because it is the only game on offer here that looks interesting at all. This may just be a straight up airplane combat game, but simplicity can sometimes be a great thing. Anyone looking to blow stuff up should give this one a try, you will not be disappointed. And if you’re not looking to do this, I understand, just go ahead and lose money by gambling in Cruise Party.

For our handheld gamers out there, the DSiWare service has six games on tap for this week. Protect the farm from the wrath of a hungry wolf in QuickPick Farmer. An evil vampire is on the loose, sent him back to where he came from by playing Soul of Darkness . Saving the lives of others must be the theme for this week, nevertheless, protect Steamworld’s gold from the human invaders in SteamWorld Tower Defense .

Not sure why anyone would want to have a shark as a pet, much less 101 of them, but if that doesn’t sound scary to you, then give 101 Shark Pets a try. It’s time to stop and smell the roses, I mean flowers in Hello Flowerz. And finally, learn more about the Faraway Tree by checking out Flips: The Folk of the Faraway Tree.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

It’s been awhile since I’ve played anything for the DS, and even longer for the DSiWare service. Then just the other day, something on there caught my eye. It was a game that mixed the elements of a rhythm based music experience with that of a traditional platformer. Throw a little bit of classical music into the mix, and you got one of the most unique downloadable titles that this system has to offer. Maestro! Green Groove is an interesting experiment that ends up being a unique type of game that gamers from all walks of life can play.

Developer:Neko Entertainment
Publisher:Neko Entertainment
Genre:Platforming, Rhythm, Music
Platform:DSiWare
If you like: Rhythm games, classical music, and platforming games

Here is the lowdown, you are Presto, a Maestro! at classical music, and your alter ego Staccato is fighting with you to gain the attention of a pretty girl named Bella. Staccato becomes jealous of Presto, and casts a spell on him to mute his musical abilities. It is now his job to travel from stage to stage collect the sounds that he has lost, and to ultimately defeat his arch nemesis and get the girl. It’s a predictable setup, but for what this game has to offer, it works.

So how can he collect the sounds you might ask, well here’s how it works. Each stage has a certain song that you have to get a certain grade in order to move on to the next one. The level is set out like a guitar, with certain lines that have to be strum at a specific time to keep Presto from falling. There are also items to collect, and enemies to defeat to keep the beat going as well. Don’t rush through a decision though, because strumming a note the wrong way will make a red note appear, get too many of them and the games over. Every action is performed through the use of the stylus pen, and it works perfectly. There was never a time when the controls weren’t responsive, and when I missed a note it was usually because my timing was off.

The visual style here is simple, but very beautiful to look at. Every level is bright and vibrant, and extremely detailed. What steals the show here is the soundtrack, and that is because you are basically responsible for either making each song sound as beautiful as they have always been, or ruining them to the point where if the artists were still alive they would come over to your house and punch you in the face. Classical music may not be everybody’s cup of tea nowadays, and for what it’s worth, I don’t listen to much of it myself, but there’s something about the way it is presented here that

My favorite aspect of this game is the boss fights, which play out like a game of simon. A sequence of banging on the drums, and strumming the guitar are played on the top screen, and then Presto has to copy those actions on the bottom screen in order to deal damage to his opponent. As easy as this might sound to do, there are quite a few times in which there is so much to do that it can become quite frustrating. Don’t give up though, because the hard work will pay off in the end, trust me on this one.

For the seasoned gamers out there, Green Groove has enough replay value to keep them coming back for quite some time. Once you complete each level in the game, it becomes unlocked as a part of a tracklist, in which you can go back to anytime to try and improve your overall ranking. There is also a free play mode that allows you to play through each level without the hassle of worrying about high scores, rankings, and so on. The five dollar entry free will go a long way here, especially for those who chose to play through the game more than once.

Maestro! Green Groove is a perfect example of why more people should be playing DSiWare games. Everything about it just screams originality. Combining genres can sometimes be a recipe for disaster, but in this case, the end result is something truly special. Anyone looking for a challenge should not pass this one up. (A)

The virtual console has been playing tricks on us as of late, but nevertheless it’s nice to see it return with a noteworthy title. Wiiware gets a game that could possibly be the sleeper downloadable hit of the summer, and the DSiWare service is on a rampage with the amount of titles that it is bringing to the table. With so much to choose from this time around, it may be hard to narrow it down to just one. I am required to make a choice, and here it is, my Nintendo Download of the Week for June 28th, 2010.

My pic for this week is going to go to Jett Rocket for the Wiiware service. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download for 1,000 Wii points through the Wii Shop Channel. The reason that I picked this as my download of the week was because I have been following it for quite some time now. To be honest with you, any game that combines the idea of a traditional platformer, along with the use of a jetpack just spells gold to me. The art design was impressive as well, it looks alot like the graphics from Mario Galaxy, and that is a very good thing. If this sounds intriguing to you, then by all means, download this one right now!

There may be some of us out there who are afraid of heights, and if that’s the case, then check out the other two titles that Wiiware has to offer. Make the fraternity members suffer by playing a game of Pong Toss Pro- Frat Party Games?. Help Robin Hood fight his way through Sherwood Forest, and bring peace back to England in Robin Hood: The Return of Richard. For the virtual console fans out there, love is in the air, and I think you will know what that means after playing a round of Mario Tennis.

For our handheld users this week, the DSiWare service has six new titles that should keep them busy. Be sure to keep the beat when playing Maestro! Green Groove . Put those pick up lines to the test in Date or Ditch. Anyone with a love for animals and puzzles should give Animal Color Cross a try. Ever wanted to own a village, well now you can do that, and so much more in Ancient Tribe. The majority of us only use 10 percent of our Brain, so be sure to make wise decisions when playing Brain Drain. Save the Earth from the wrath of the Mutant Queen and her insect army in Battle of Giants: Mutant Insects – Revenge.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

Now that all of the hooplah has died down from E3 2010, its time to get back to business. It seems like every time the Virtual Console gets a new release one week, it becomes forgotten by the next. To make matters worse, most of the downloads this time around are not going to grab anyones attention in my opinion. A pick still has to made, and I think I have a good idea about which one is better than the rest. So here we go, here is my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for June 21st, 2010.

My pic for this week is going to go to Art Style: Rotozoa for the Wiiware service. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download for 600 Wii points through the Wii Shop Channel. The reason that I picked this as my pick was because it looks like a mixture of Pixeljunk Eden and Flow with some colorful elements throw in to give the game a unique sense of style that it can call it’s own. The idea here is that you are a little circle on the screen that floats around and collects little colored orbs that will not only help you traverse through your environment, but will also help you take out other enemies as well. The Art Style series always aims at being unique and fun at the same time, and I’m sure that is the case when it comes to Rotozoa, so what are you waiting for, download it right now!

If spinning circles that collect colors isn’t your thing, then check out the other two titles that Wiiware has to offer. There is something fishy going on at Bearsworth Manor, figure out what it is by playing The Tales of Bearsworth Manor: Chaotic Conflicts and The Tales of Bearsworth Manor: Puzzling Pages.

On the handheld side of things, the DSiware service has five games available for download this time around. It’s time to spin that wheel, and solve some numeric puzzles in Spin Six. Help the puffin find his favorite meal, the Capelin in Puffins: Let’s Fish. If you have a knack for solving Word puzzles, then Mega Words is right up your alley. Tired of playing the same old puzzle games time after time, me too, so try out a unique take on the genre by playing Super Swap. The dinosaurs are threatening to destroy the human race, save all of mankind and stop their plan in Legendary Wars: T-Rex Rumble.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

You would think that with each of the three main gaming companies having their big press conferences this week that they would bring their A game in releases for their downloadable services. I guess Nintendo decided to go the other route, and ended up releasing a bunch of games that none of us are looking forward to(at least for me), and maybe one that might be worth playing. At least the Virtual Console is back, so there is some upside to the whole situation. Even though I am disappointed in this decision, a pick still has to be made. So here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for June 14th, 2010.

My pic for this week is going to go to Bejewled 2 for Wiiware. It has an ESRB Rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download for 1,000 Wii points through the Wii Shop Channel. The reason I chose this as my pick is because I have an addiction to puzzle games, plain and simple. It could also have something to do with the fact that PopCap games are one of my favorite game developers as well. Anyone who has an addiction to puzzle games should waste no time at all and download this one right now.

If matching up jewels to earn points isn’t your thing, then check out some of the other games that the Wiiware and Virtual console services have to offer. You could work on your Air Hockey and Bowling skills in Arcade Sports. If you’re the type of person who likes to shop at Yard sales, head on over to Sunnyville in Yard Sale Hidden Treasures: Sunnyville and start looking for those bargains. In order to be a true ninja, one must not be seen, be sure to remember that when playing Shadow of the Ninja.

For our handheld consumers out there, the DSiWare service has five games for you to check out. Kappa, the mythical river spirit, needs help in its quest to travel to the human world in A Kappa’s Trail. It’s time to brush up on some useless knowledge, because it will be useful when playing Telegraph Crosswords. A science teacher by the name of Mr. Watts doesn’t seem quite like himself, find out what his problem is in Flips: Silent but Deadly. Anyone with some musical talent, and a love for techno music, will want to check out Music on: Electronic Keyboard. For those of you out there who have itchy trigger fingers when it comes to FPS games, 16 Shot: Shooting Watch will put those fingers to the test.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

It is going to be really hard for me to pick a favorite game this week, because most of them just look like shovelware crap to be honest with you. The VC service seems to be on vacation once again, and I think it’s about time it put down the magarita and got back into the ballgame, because there have only been a couple of games released for it in the past couple of months. Despite all of these issues, I am sure that there is something in here that might be worth playing. Here is my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for June 7th, 2010.

My pick for this week goes to Fire Panic for the DSiWare service. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download through the DSi Shop Channel for 200 DSi Points. The reason that I picked this game was because I think it has an interesting concept. The idea of using puzzle elements to keep a fire from spreading sounds like alot of fun. Puzzle games are a dime a dozen nowadays, especially for DSiWare, but Fire Panic might be a good time waster every once in awhile. Anyone out there who has a little bit of Firefighter in them should go ahead and download this one right now.

If you don’t want to risk getting burned then check out some of the other DSiWare offerings on tap for this week. You could practice your connect the dots skills in Don’t Cross the Line. Anyone out there who enjoys a good fairytale should check out Flips: The Magic Faraway Tree. Not really sure how else to explain this one, but anyone familiar with Maboshi for Wiiware should give Flametail a try.

On the console side of things, the Wiiware service has three new games to check out. It’s time to get out the tackle box, and test out your fishing skills in Reel Fishing Challenge II. Whenever I think of this creature, it reminds me of Timon from the Lion King. If you liked him as much as I did, then check out Lead the Meerkats. Never knew this sport was popular at the Zoo, but anyone who is looking to play a round of golf there should try out Zoo Disc Golf.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

To be honest with all of you, nothing in particular from this weeks available downloads sounds appealing, but I will give it a shot. The VC is back, and gets a game that I have never heard of, and some kids might recognize one of the Wiiware titles, as it comes from a popular cartoon franchise. The DSiWare service might have a shot with some of its offerings, but we will just have to wait and see. With that being said, here is my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for May 31st, 2010.

My Pic for this week is going to have to go to X-Scape for the DSiWare Service. It has an ESRB rating of E10+, and is available for download through the DSi Shop Channel for 800 DSi Points. The reason that I picked this game was because it seemed to be the most unique of the bunch. Anything that has a tank that can both fly and drive at the same time is a winner in my book. The retro design helped out a little bit in the decision making as well. If you feel the same way I do about this idea, then go ahead and download X-Scape right now.

For those of you who don’t agree with me, check out the other three titles available for DSiWare. You could save the world from mythical creatures in Hero of Sparta. Maybe futuristic battles are more your flavor, if so, then give A Tupsy Turvy Life: The Turvy’s Strike back a try. Math was never my favorite subject in school, but for those people out there who have a knack in solving numerical problems, Telegraph Sudoku & Kakuro might give them a challenge.

The Wiiware service has three titles to check out this time around. Anyone who is familiar with the cartoon series might want to give Ben 10 Alien Force: The Rise of Hex a closer look. Just promise me one thing after you check out Voodoo Dice, please do not start placing curses on other people, its creepy. Never thought the day would come when beavers and robots had a battle to the death, nevertheless, in order to win this great battle, you are going to have to play Robocalypse: Beaver Defense.

Last, but certainly not least, there is still a VC game to talk about. Clint needs your help in defending his town from the evil Kid Gang, so get your trigger finger ready, its time to blast away some bad guys in Wild Guns.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

Since Kirby Super Star was such a big VC release last week, I was kind of expecting no VC game this time around, and that’s exactly what I got. Oh well, its not that big of a deal, because both the Wiiware and DSiware services are offering up some great games, which is going to make my pic for the week that much more difficult. The only question now is do I pick a space shooter or light racing game? Here we go, here is my pick for Nintendo download of the Week for May 24th, 2010.

Now I enjoy shooting games as much as the next person, but I love racing games a whole lot more. With that being said, my pic for this week is going to have to go to Art Style: Light Trax for Wiiware. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for 600 Points in the Wii Shop Channel. The reason why I picked this game was because I always like to see the interesting ideas that the Art Style series can come up with. Even though the game is just about light beams racing each other to a goal, the simplicity of the design is what draws you in, as I’m sure the level of challenge will more than compensate for it. If you do not get seizures too easily, then go ahead and download this game right now.

Maybe you’re not up for some light beam racing, if that’s the case, then check out some of the other Wiiware titles available for download. You could always find your inner Monkey, and battle it out with other primates in Manic Monkey Mayhem. Once your done doing that, then try to survive the fight against illness in Viral Survival.

For those of you who are handheld crazy, the DSiWare service has four new games to check out. You can take out your aggressions on life by shooting everything in sight in Metal Torrent. I’m not too good at card games, but if you are, then give World Poker Tour: Texas Hold’em a shot. If you’re detective skills are solid, then try to solve the mystery found in Real Crimes: Jack the Ripper. It’s time to get those vehicles up and running, can you connect the circuits together in enough time in Advanced Circuits?

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

P.S.- If for some reason you still haven’t downloaded Photo Dojo, please do so, it is free until June 11th.

Seriously, if I do not choose the Virtual Console offering as my download of the week, all of my friends are going to think I’m crazy. It was one of those rare titles from my childhood that really stood out to me as a gamer. The hardest part about this decision is the fact that the WiiWare service has just released a game that has been on my must buy list ever since I saw the first trailer for it. Despite this difficult decision, here is my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for May 17th, 2010.

My pick for this week just has to go to one of, if not, the best Kirby games ever made, Kirby Super Star for the Virtual Console. It has an ESRB rating of E for Everyone, and is available for download through the Wii Shop Channel at the asking price of 800 Wii Points. The first reason why I picked it as my download of the week is because it is one of my favorite games of all time, with the second reason being that this was quite possibly one of the best titles to ever be released for the SNES. When a game is so good that your friend makes a parody video about one of its characters, you know that it is an experience that you will never forget. If any of you feel the same way i do about this masterpiece, then what are you waiting for?, download it right now.

The Wiiware offerings on tap for this week aren’t too shabby either. If speed runs are your thing, then be sure to check out Bit Trip Runner. You are all alone on Blood Beach, and the only you way in which you can escape is by shooting everything in sight. It will be an uphill battle, but we are all rooting for you to recapture the Soloman Islands once and for all.

Our delightful little handheld service, the DSiWare, has four new games to check out this time around. You can help a rabbit write a story in Looksley’s Line Up. A classic remake that reminds us to look both ways before we cross the street is back, that’s right, Frogger has returned. It’s time to turn that frown upside down, or at the very least, your DSi, and play the new puzzle game A Topsy Turvy Life: Turvy Drops. And last but not least, the Flips series is back with another story to tell, so sit down in a comfy chair, and try your hands at Flips: More Bloody Horowitz.

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!

P.S.- If you haven’t done it already, please check out Photo Dojo for the DSiWare, it is free to download until June 11th.

After the two stagnant weeks of almost nothing good coming out for either of Nintendo’s downloadable services, things are starting to get better. Even though this is a repeat from the last article, I still hate the fact that the Virtual Console is not getting the love and care it deserves. That being said, my pick for this week was a fairly easy one, especially since it was one of my favorite handheld games at Pax East. So without further adieu, here is my pic for Nintendo Download of the Week for May 10th, 2010.

My pick for this week goes to one of the most unique titles to ever be released for the DSiWare service, Photo Dojo. It has an ESRB rating of E10+ and is available for download through the DSi Shop Channel for free (you heard what I said) until June 11th. The first, and most obvious reason why I picked this as my download of the week is because you don’t have to pay a dime to get it. My other reason for choosing this game is because it utilizes almost every feature of the DSi in such a fun, yet unique way. This is basically a side scrolling beat em-up in which you can customize just about everything (backgrounds, characters, sound effects, powerups, enemies, etc.). Opportunities like this do not come around too often, so please give Photo Dojo a chance and download it now.

Let’s say you are the type of person who doesn’t feel like giving their friends a good old fashioned beat down, then check out some the of the other DSiWare games available for download. You could always relax, and play a nice game of chess by checking out Chess Challenge. Maybe going on a magical journey is your thing, if it is, then give Flips: The Enchanted Wood a try. If you are an old school gamer like me, and enjoy a little blast from the past every once in awhile, then be sure to check Earthworm Jim.

Heading back over to the Wii, we have a remake of an old DS game, and a copy of one of the DSiWare games available for Wiiware. As lazy as these choices are, I am still going to give you the rundown about each of them. As sleazy as they are, if you have the guts to be a lawyer, then give Ace Attorney Investigations: Trials and Tribulations a try. Other than that, you can always play chess on the big screen in Chess Challenge (ugh, lazy developers).

All of this, and more can be found in the DSi and Wii Shop Channels right now, have fun!
