Ever since the release of Street Fighter IV and my purchase of a fight stick, I’ve began to take console-fighters on a competitive level. Since then I’ve added BlazBlue, SSFIV, and Marvel VS Capcom 3 to my fighter library. Aside from random quarters that I’ve dropped into Marvel VS Capcom 2 arcade-cabinets, I’ve barely touched the titles that compose the franchise. Needless to say I was excited, this past Tuesday, when picking up my copy of MvC3. The excitement was not a waste of emotion.

After losing in the second round of a Madden tournament at my local rental store, one of the workers there said I could either have a free movie or half price on a video game rental. As I started to make my way towards the Game Room, something caught my eye. There it was, an updated remake of a classic horror franchise, Splatterhouse. Without hesitation, my trembling fingers picked up the game, rushed it over to the counter, and then I went home excited about how much fun this was going to be. Looking back on this decision, and after finishing this frustrating experience, maybe it would have been a better choice to get the movie instead. (more…)
What are the 2 most important elements of any arcade-racer? My answer: Speed and track design. Techland may not have developed a game that takes the arcade-racer to new-heights, but they sure Nail’d the important parts. Nail’d tosses realistic-physics out the window for vertigo-inducing, full-throttle, ATV/MX insanity. None of what you see while racing through the 14 in-game tracks will ever be witnessed by seeing-eyes as long as you live, but this is why we started playing games in the first place, right?

It was like riding an elevator for fun, if fun could be had while riding an elevator. Castlevania couldn’t seem to help itself. Every time it seemed to take my opinions to a higher-floor, the moment would be ruined by another call to the ground-lobby. For Mercurysteam, Castlevania is a palette cleanser from the bad-taste left in the mouths of those who played Clive Barker’s Jericho. Proof of development competence in the same vein of that which was given to Rocksteady, for their work on Arkham Asylum. It took only an hour for me to realize Mercurysteam could be the “sleeper-hit developer” of 2010 — or will they? (more…)
Most of the critics had it all wrong. Capcom’s 3rd-person shooter is far from being one of the last games to play of the 2010 bunch. In fact, the engine presented 2010 with some of the most satisfying shooter action of the year. So, why haven’t you played it? Let me guess; you heard it was awful? Well, you heard wrong. (more…)

Here’s the deal, I was a big fan of Conker’s Bad Fur Day for the N64, and absolutely loved the remake of it for the Xbox, Conker: Live and Reloaded. The idea of a cute, cuddly, and furry animal wreaking havoc in a peaceful world is so twisted that it’s awesome. What helped that game succeed was the humourous dialogue, varied level design, and satisfying, yet rewarding combat mechanics. Now Naughty Bear has arrived, and he is trying to cash in on the same idea. The problem with this is that Naughty only ends up succeeding in concept, and fails in getting everything else right. To enjoy: lower standards
As much of a Nintendo fanboy as I might be, don’t forget that I do love to play games on every console. Here is a trailer for a PS3 game that I am really excited about. Twisted Metal was, and still is, one of the most popular Playstation games to ever be released. If you are not familiar with this franchise, here is all you need to know, cars with guns that blow each other up, that’s it. This entry into the franchise is set to release sometime in 2011, Enjoy!
Even though it went for just a little too long (around 3 hours or so) there were still plenty of things to enjoy about the Sony press conference. Die hard fans of a certain series are finally getting the game that they have been waiting for, a release date for a popular racing title has been announced, an epic speech was given, a popular puzzle game gets released onto the PS3, and even the PSP gets a new peripheral. Keep in mind that I missed some parts of the show due to the lag of the online feed for certain websites. Nevertheless, let’s take some time now and look at some of the highlights from the show.
