How Good Is Marvel VS Capcom 3, Really?

Ever since the release of Street Fighter IV and my purchase of a fight stick, I’ve began to take console-fighters on a competitive level. Since then I’ve added BlazBlue, SSFIV, and Marvel VS Capcom 3 to my fighter library. Aside from random quarters that I’ve dropped into Marvel VS Capcom 2 arcade-cabinets, I’ve barely touched the titles that compose the franchise. Needless to say I was excited, this past Tuesday, when picking up my copy of MvC3. The excitement was not a waste of emotion.

The Calm before the Storm

With the conclusion of the popular series Gears of War just around the corner, the people over at Epic games are now hard at work on a new FPS experience entitled Bulletstorm. On paper, everything looks exactly like the companies previous entry into the video game world, but after playing the demo on Xbox Live, I am happy to tell you that this is something completely unique and extremely fun in its own right. If you like slow motion kills, launching your opponent 50 feet into the air, or shooting some bullets into aliens butts for points, this will satisfy all of those little cravings and then some. Two Worlds II Review

If it is a surprise to you that Two Worlds, one of the lowest points in current-gen RPGs, had a sequel planned that was actually released; welcome to the club. This fabled sequel has been told and it should be more of a surprise that it is a good game. Those with the highest of game-standards will find plenty of reasons to trash TW II but gamers with a sense of appreciation will find much to love. If you consider yourself a core-gamer and yearn for 40-50 hour RPG experiences, Reality Pump has just served your order. This is as “hardcore” as an action-RPG can get. (more…)

Review: Splatterhouse

After losing in the second round of a Madden tournament at my local rental store, one of the workers there said I could either have a free movie or half price on a video game rental. As I started to make my way towards the Game Room, something caught my eye. There it was, an updated remake of a classic horror franchise, Splatterhouse. Without hesitation, my trembling fingers picked up the game, rushed it over to the counter, and then I went home excited about how much fun this was going to be. Looking back on this decision, and after finishing this frustrating experience, maybe it would have been a better choice to get the movie instead. (more…)

Review: Nail’d

What are the 2 most important elements of any arcade-racer? My answer: Speed and track design. Techland may not have developed a game that takes the arcade-racer to new-heights, but they sure Nail’d the important parts. Nail’d tosses realistic-physics out the window for vertigo-inducing, full-throttle, ATV/MX insanity. None of what you see while racing through the 14 in-game tracks will ever be witnessed by seeing-eyes as long as you live, but this is why we started playing games in the first place, right?

End-game Redemption – Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

It was like riding an elevator for fun, if fun could be had while riding an elevator. Castlevania couldn’t seem to help itself. Every time it seemed to take my opinions to a higher-floor, the moment would be ruined by another call to the ground-lobby. For Mercurysteam, Castlevania is a palette cleanser from the bad-taste left in the mouths of those who played Clive Barker’s Jericho. Proof of development competence in the same vein of that which was given to Rocksteady, for their work on Arkham Asylum. It took only an hour for me to realize Mercurysteam could be the “sleeper-hit developer” of 2010 — or will they? (more…)

The Unappreciated of 2010: Dark Void

Click the image to open in full size.

Most of the critics had it all wrong. Capcom’s 3rd-person shooter is far from being one of the last games to play of the 2010 bunch. In fact, the engine presented 2010 with some of the most satisfying shooter action of the year. So, why haven’t you played it? Let me guess; you heard it was awful? Well, you heard wrong. (more…)

DLC Review: Tempest Pack

I hate it when DLC for a game comes out, and you’re offered like 3 different things for 10 or 15 dollars a piece. Granted, most of the content at that price is associated with full retail games, but it is still way too much to pay nonetheless. The people over at Vector Unit, creators of Hydro Thunder Hurricane for the XBLA, understand this problem, and have decided to give players a little more bang for their buck with their “Tempest Pack”. Is there content on offer here to justify the price of admission?, find out more after the jump. (more…)

Review: Comic Jumper The Adventures of Captain Smiley

The same company that brought you XBLA hits The Maw and Splosion Man are releasing their third XBLA title, Comic Jumper. Twisted Pixel returns to the scene with the newly acquired comic book hero…oops, I meant to say joke of a hero. (more…)

Review: Space Invaders Infinity Gene

When the game first started, it had the feel and taste of the original Space Invaders game; black and white screen and the basic vector graphics used in the original. Soon after that intro level, the game evolved into this 2D/3D version, where you’re allowed to fly all over the screen to shoot down the aliens. Space Invaders Infinity Gene brings back the classic feel of Space Invaders but with a Bit.Trip and Ikaruga feel. (more…)

Review: Sonic Adventure

At one time or another, I’m sure all of us have heard the phrase “some things get better with age”, that is not the case with the re-release of Sonic Adventure to XBLA. Instead of being something that will remind us of the good old days, it just further explains why Sonic has never really faired well in the third dimension. SA is a completely broken experience from start to finish. This really is a shame because Sonic is my favorite video game mascot of all time, and he has been treated rather unfairly in recent years. Microview: Halo Reach

Seeing that I’m the resident Halo expert here at Rejected Gamer, I wanted to share my thoughts with you about Halo Reach. This is only a mini-review, so don’t expect too much elaboration about the game, but my full review, which will be posted on or around this upcoming Tuesday, will have an in-depth look into the game.
