XBLA Review: Droplitz

Droplitz for the Xbox Live Arcade is guaranteed to challenge the best of all Puzzle gamers in this very fast paced and sure to be addictive arcade game. From the developer Blitz Arcade & the publisher Atlus U.S.A., Inc., comes the very easy to understand and pick up & play title, but with some very lofty goals to obtain at the same time too.

I like nothing more than chilling out with a great puzzle game from time to time and Droplitz has landed smack on the top of my list of great puzzle games to play. In Droplitz you simply rotate the series of dials on your screen and create pathways between the droppers above and your collectors below for your tiny droplitz.

Now comes the hard part of the game, you’ll need to create safe pathways fast enough and make sure those precious drops reach their collectors before your timer runs out. If you create pathways without a collector at the end, you’ll waste those drops and loose the game fast.

Droplitz consists of 4 very challenging game modes and each of these modes has various themed boards and different sizes for you to unlock as you play the game. Each board and mode unlocked will help you reach the other boards and game modes in time.

You will begin with the Classic game mode first and start working at unlocking those nicely themed boards and trying to reach a score of 150,000; at which time you’ll unlock the Zendurance mode next.

Then you’ll repeat that process under the Zendurance mode and hopefully score high enough to reach the Power-Up mode and gain various abilities such as Bombs that are needed to clear out the game board and increase your score.

The last and final mode to unlock is the Infection mode, where your dials become infected with some kind of gel and are harder to turn and make pathways. Don’t worry, I think you will have plenty of time to reach the Infection mode of Droplitz.

Some people might feel that the score levels have been set way to high and not reachable, but I can tell you that it is possible… just keep at it and create those pathways until the last drop falls.

I would love to tell you a sure fire way to reach the various goals and unlock the different game modes, but the only wisdom I can give you is to not over think this game and don’t sit still during game play, those drops are wasting away for sure.

Rotate, Rotate, Rotate and you’ll see your scores climb and climb, but be prepared for those moments of taking one step forward and then two steps back as you work at climbing up the leader boards and unlocking those achievements. Droplitz is clearly a game that was meant to have a very long playable life cycle here and with very high goals & achievements set in place to be earned.

The games visuals are very pleasing to the eyes and the selection of music in the various themed boards can be both relaxing at times or provide just the right amount of encouragement needed to get you rotating those dials.

If your looking for a challenging puzzler for your collection, then look no further and drop those Microsoft Points down on Droplitz today, you will get your monies worth for sure with this game. I think you will find yourself droping in over and over to play Droplitz and you’ll be amazed as you begin to unlock each of the game modes and start climbing the leaderboards. (A+)
