Nintendo Download of the Week: 4/25 Edition

It’s a good thing that I just picked up a copy of Conduit 2 recently, because there is nothing to get excited about with this latest offering of Nintendo downloads. At this point, all of the focus seems to be on the upcoming eshop coming out for the 3DS next month. That’s still no excuse for such a lazy effort from developers recently, but apparently quantity over quality is all they seem to care about, and fans of each of these services suffer because of it. Anyways here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for April 25th, 2011. (more…)

The Reign of Mortal Kombat

Not since I’ve held a Sega Genesis controller have I played a Mortal Kombat game.  In the years that passed I pledged my allegiance to Capcom, and Arc-System Works’ fighters.  Accustomed to quarter-circle attack-inputs, the idea of a combat-system not based on user-input skill was mind-numbing. As everyone does I grew older, and wiser, and in the last week took it “outside the box” by purchasing the highly-anticipated MK-reboot.  And while Capcom has the know-how to keep competitive-level gamers happy with balancing and frame-work, Mortal Kombat schools the competition in Story-mode.

As much as the “core” fighter-fans feel the need to disregard a mode of its nature, the slightly-casual gamer now has a reason to play through these games.  An expanded market equals larger profit; everyone’s happy.  Especially the gamer, who now has – in the case of Mortal Kombat – a great, seam-less, nearly cinematic story to go with their nut-punches and decapitation.  Being fully aware of how irrelevant a story is to MK is not important, but much more is how NetherRealm Studios has set a standard for future fighters.

Watch the embedded video below, and tell me I’m wrong.  Fight the urge to imagine how awesome it would be had Marvel VS Capcom 3, or Super Street Fighter IV, integrated their story-modes in the same fashion.  NetherRealm has stepped the game up.  Now only time will tell how long before your favorite fighter-developer follows suit.

Conduit 2 Review (Single-player)

”As for strictly Wii-owners, this is as good as it gets for a shooter on your platform. ”

The game we will be playing is Crysis 2. I will be hosting one room for the game, and that’s about it. Now all I need you to do is to show up at the scheduled time in order to join in on the fun. Hope to see you all on Friday.

Nintendo Download of the Week: 4/18 Edition

There are not too many times in which a game from my childhood tends to pop up on the Wii Shop Channel, so you can pretty much guess my decision right off the bat this time around. Even though I haven’t finished too many titles in this particular series, all of them were extremely fun to play. Giving it away in the first paragraph is just not my style, but let’s just say his favorite color is blue and leave it at that. Anyways here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for April 18th, 2011. (more…)

Nintendo Download of the Week: 4/11 Edition

Apparently when a company is preparing a new online shop for its latest handheld gaming platform, the downloadable offerings on the other platforms are just simply forgotten about. Seriously, what is the problem here, why can’t more attention be put into these other services? Week after week, I am complaining about there being nothing good to check out, and those who spend their time in these shops could possibly be feeling the same way as well. Oh well, let’s give it a shot anyways, here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for April 11th, 2011. (more…)

Too close to home

The title of this article exactly depicts my feelings about THQ’s latest entry into the overgrown FPS genre, Homefront. Now just sit back for a second and think if all of our worst fears about what could possibly happen to our country actually came true. Gas prices rising to astronomical heights, a foreign nation unifying together and turning our world into a concentration camp, innocent citizens losing their lives for no apparent reason, and all of our natural resources becoming so scarce that people have to scrimp and save just to stay alive. It is the year 2027, and this is the current condition of the United States of America. (more…)

Nintendo Download of the Week: 4/4 Edition

Apparently the last offering of downloads from Nintendo was, in some way shape or form, their idea of a sick and cruel pre-April Fools joke. In order to remedy this cruel mistake, they have decided to give us a much larger spectrum of titles to choose from this time around. As I have stated before however, sometimes quantity doesn’t neccesarily mean quality when it comes to situations such as these. Let’s get on with what we came here to do, so here it is, my pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for April 4th, 2011. (more…)

A Hidden Treasure

It’s been a long time since I’ve talked about any Wiiware or DSiWare game in specific detail, but after trying out a demo of Dive: The Medes Island Secret for Wiiware, my interest in Nintendo downloadable gaming has peaked once again. Developed by the people over at Cosmonaut Games, this title has once basic premise, search for lost treasures in a beautifully designed underwater world. The games visual design grabbed my attention almost immediately. For a service that has severe file limitations, the amount of detail in the level design was absolutely amazing. (more…)

Nintendo Download of the Week: 3/28 Edition

As some of you may already know, there are a number of times in which it is really hard for me to pick a favorite download from either one of Nintendo’s downloadable shops. Usually I find something at least halfway decent out of the bunch, that I think has some potential as a worthwhile download. For the first time ever though, this is not the case, as I am sorry to say that I have no pick for Nintendo Download of the Week for March 28th, 2011. What I will do instead is still share which games are available to check out this time around, so no more blabbering, let’s go on with it. (more…)
